Weekly clinics for Bantam and Intermediate

Quick description of Bantam and Intermediate

BANTAM (12yr old and under)
This class consists of kids who are looking to play competitive tennis whether it be on jr. suburban teams or in tournaments. To belong here you must be looking to improve your stroke mechanics in order to solidify a strong foundation in which to build up other areas of your game. There will be a heavy emphasis on shot execution in both drills and match situations. You also must have had significant instruction at a beginner level and should be able to hit balls from the baseline.

INTERMEDIATE
(13 yr old and over)
This class is for students that are looking to compete at a higher level in tournaments. They are expected to come in with a solid foundation, although shot execution will still be a major focus in the class. In addition, advanced shots and strategies will be learned and implemented in match play situations.

**Attention Bantam and Intermediates Students**
As in all our classes: 100% effort, a willingness to learn, and a willingness to receive correction/make changes is expected.

Tournament Trainining Class 2010

Background:
We started the tournament training class in order to provide our most dedicated students the opportunity to have more quality court time with us while also providing each student a group of highly competitive players with whom he or she could use to improve his or her game. Since its inception, we have seen many students win their first tournaments, make and start for the Godwin boys and girls teams, and improve their self confidence.

Trust:
We have realized that in order for our students to have success, the relationship between teacher and student must remain in tact. Our students need to trust that the instruction we are giving them will help maximize their potential. We have to trust that our students will make the corrections we give them. If this relationship is incomplete, then the outcome will not be beneficial to either the student or the teacher. Therefore, in this class we are looking for students who are willing to put their complete confidence in us and follow the instruction given to them. As we have learned from previous years, a mixture of instruction from our program and that of another will most likely not work and will confuse students.

This Summer’s Program:
Ben and I are going to continue offering our summer tournament training program for those juniors wanting to take advantage of this time to maximize their improvement and success not just in tournaments this summer but also for the return of school tennis next spring. Many of our juniors are reaching an age (14-16) where they must invest more time in their games in order to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Although technique continues to be important, the intangibles such as: knowing what shot to play when, how to exploit a weakness, how to perform under pressure, and how to survive bad days, are some of the factors that distinguish the great players from the good players. Our class will meet Mondays-Thursdays four days a week, 2 hours each day. We have placed the times later in the day to better accommodate the tournament schedule. The location of each class will be posted on our website at a later date.

If You Are Interested:
Our students have made an uncompromising commitment to their tennis games. They spend on average 4 – 5 days on the court each week. If you are interested in making this commitment to tennis and to our program, please contact us to set up an evaluation time so we can make sure that this program is right for you.
Please be aware of the two main rules for our program:
1) A positive attitude is required, and
2) Upon listening carefully to our instruction we expect an immediate effort to make the required changes.
